Kittiwake Coast

Glovertown’s history and way of life has been shaped…
The Kittiwake Coast fills you with wonder and boundless opportunity for adventure.
Located in the northeast region of Central Newfoundland, the Kittiwake Coast stretches from Terra Nova National Park to Lewisporte and the surrounding area. Included in this region are the towns of Eastport, famous for its sandy beaches, and Twillingate, otherwise known as the Iceberg Capital of the World.
A short drive east brings you to the ferry to Change Islands which holds the title of the world’s fishing stage capital, and is home to the province’s only Newfoundland Pony Sanctuary. North of Change Islands sits Fogo Island – the largest inhabited island off the province’s coast. This island is a must-see destination thanks to the award-winning, world renowned Fogo Island Inn and artist studios. The Flat Earth Society considers Brimstone Head in Fogo to be one of the four corners of the Earth.
The capital of the Kittiwake Coast is the Town of Gander. With its rich aviation history, the community and its people were put on the world’s stage for their generosity and camaraderie following the attacks of 9/11.
Whether you visit this region to unravel the mysteries of the lost culture of the Beothuk people, or to walk in the footsteps of the early European settlers who lived and worked off the land, it won’t be hard to find a way to make your vacation to this region memorable.
